Plumbing design

Plumbing design with hygiene at the center

Drinking water is a foodstuff. We design installations that are hygienically safe, economical with energy, and possible to service later.

What this service covers

In plumbing design, much is decided by the pipe routing. Oversized pipes and rarely used branches lead to stagnation — and with it the risk of legionella. Short runs, correctly sized cross sections, and a well thought-out hot water concept are therefore not details but the core of the work.

  • Drinking water distribution — cold and hot water, circulation, and demand-based sizing of the risers
  • Hot water generation — storage, instantaneous systems, heat pump integration, and legionella prevention
  • Drainage — foul and storm water, pipe routing, venting, and lifting stations
  • Rainwater and greywater reuse — concept, sizing, and coordination with the authorities
  • Fixtures and fittings — neutral selection based on function and lifecycle cost
  • Firefighting connections — outlets and coordination with the fire protection concept
  • Drinking water hygiene
  • Legionella prevention
  • Hot water
  • Drainage
  • Rainwater harvesting
  • Greywater

How we work

Hygiene before convenience

We size cross sections as tightly as permitted and avoid dead legs. Water should flow, not stand.

Hot water with judgment

In well insulated buildings, hot water generation is often the largest single item in energy consumption. We calculate demand and simultaneity instead of rounding up.

Shafts that work out

Riser zones are coordinated with architecture early. Shafts moved after the fact are one of the most common cost drivers in the shell.

Built to be serviced

Isolation valves, access panels, and measuring points in the right places save time and money later — and make verification possible when something goes wrong.

Acoustics in wet areas

Waste pipes are a classic source of complaints. We plan routing, fixing, and insulation so the requirements are met.

Retrofits start with a survey

Every renovation begins with a survey of what is there. Only then can we say what can be reused and what has to go.

Scope of the engagement

What is not included Not included are legionella sampling and laboratory analysis, on-site construction management, flushing and disinfection records, and updating as-built drawings after completion. We provide these services only under a separate agreement.

Frequently asked questions

How do you prevent legionella through design?

Through short pipe runs, tightly sized cross sections, consistent hot water circulation, and avoiding rarely used branches. Temperature alone is not enough if the hydraulics are wrong.

Is rainwater harvesting worth it?

Rarely on water charges alone, but often ecologically. We calculate the specific case rather than recommending for or against in general. There is a post on greywater in our blog (in German).

Who selects the fixtures?

Usually the owner, often together with the architect. We supply the technical requirements and check whether the preferred products work hydraulically and hygienically. We receive no sales commissions.

Do you design single-family houses and retrofits too?

Yes. We design everything from a single-family house to a commercial park. For smaller projects the effort is correspondingly smaller, and we state that in the proposal.
