The expansion of renewable energy is progressing and ensuring that we need less "dirty" energy. However, energy consumption itself will continue to increase unabated. Essentially, this doesn't matter to the environment as long as the required energy comes from sustainable sources.

The problem with many renewable energy sources is that they generate electricity at times when it cannot be fully utilized.

For our power grid to function smoothly, it is important that we generate about as much energy as we are currently consuming. If the difference is too large, it leads to problems.

The first effects of this fact are the reduced feed-in tariffs for PV system owners starting in 2026. The amortization of the PV system will no longer be possible with the new amounts per kWh (despite subsidies).
